Articles have been written, Twitter threads have been spun about the injustice meted out by the Federal Government to the Islamic sect, Shiites. In fact, calls are still being made to the FG to release their leader, El Zakzaky, who still remains incarcerated despite a court order to the contrary.
Based on these antecedents, Nicholas Ibekwe tackles the peculiar attitude of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs with respect to a different sect.
See below:
1/ Over 500 Shi'ites killed by the army, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) said it was "avoidable & unfortunate".
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
2/ Yesterday the same (NSCIA) described the attacks on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar as "tragic, " "wanton" "monumental" "brutal.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
3/ The choice of words used in describing both attacks clearly exposed the hypocrisy of the NSCIA.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
4/ In fact, the NSCIA, highest Islamic decision making body in the country, did not issue an official statement after the massacre of Shi'ite
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
5/ One of its officials only spoke because a reporter asked for his view.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
6/For political reasons, the Sunni-dominated NSCIA didn't think the unbridled massacre of over 500 Shi'ite by the army was important enough.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
7/ But the same NSCIA is now so shocked to fire a statement just days after the massacre of Muslims in far away Myanmar.
— Nicholas Ibekwe (@nicholasibekwe) September 9, 2017
8/ The bottom line of this thread: Nobody hates Nigerians like Nigerians. Forget Christianity or Islam, hypocrisy is our official religion.
