An Editor-in-Chief has come to judgement!
So, our own Chude Jideonwo went on a rare Twitter thread-storm yesterday.
The sum of it? He has had it with folks who reckon it’s a right- and not a privilege- to have their stories pulled down from online news sites, simply at their say so.
He has decided to school them on the principles of journalism, as well as leave them with a notice: asking people to pull down stories should be met with ‘no’.
See below:
When I was in high school, final year, people asked what I wanted to be: whenever I said 'journalist', they would be shocked.

Appaz, no one wanted to be a journalist. First and most importantly, because the money was poor. If at all media, it had to be advertising.

But I wanted to be a journalist. For same reason many people want to so be: To tell stories. To shape a slice of history. To be IN on it.

It's reasonable for you to lean on relationships, advertising dollars, withdrawal of access to pull a story. It's logical.

That's the reason we came here in the first place. And that's why, what seems so easy to you, is so incredibly hard for us to do.

Here's notice, & paid-forward explanation, to all the people I will upset in the future by saying:

"No, that person has a right to that opinion. That story has a right to be told. That perspective needs be shared. I will not put it down."
