TICKER: Death toll rises to 4 in Lagos ocean surge, 12 still missing

Following yesterday’s ocean surge at Kuramo Beach, three bodies, including a 6 year old girl, have been recovered from the nearby Bar Beach this morning.

Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, General Manager of Lagos Emergency Management Agency, said that recovered bodies would be deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

One person was earlier confirmed dead Saturday after the Atlantic Ocean charged into Kuramo Beach in Lagos.

The National Emergency Management Agency had confirmed the death, saying 15 others were  still missing in the incident.

Twelve of those reported missing are yet to be found.

The Lagos state government has said all structures at Kuramo Beach, all of them shanties, are to be demolished by noon Sunday.

Bulldozers are already on standby to commence the demolition, and residents are seen evacuating properties.
