The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is facing criticism after reports emerged of theft involving some of its operatives.

According to reports, several agency officials have been dismissed, while others are under investigation for fraud and the theft of recovered assets, including cash and gold bars.

In 2024 alone, at least 27 commission officers were dismissed due to misconduct and fraud.

Telecoms subscribers clamor 10% tariff increase instead of 50%

Subscribers of the Nigerian telecom providers have warned that the companies should reduce their tariff hike from 50% to 10%, giving a deadline of January 29, 2025.

The National Association of Telecom Subscribers and the Association of Telephone, Cable TV, and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria have criticised the Nigerian Labour Congress for its planned protest. They urged the union to concentrate on its primary mandate of protecting workers’ welfare.

Both advocacy groups acknowledge the financial burden of the tariff hike, especially given the current economic difficulties in the country. However, they oppose the NLC’s proposed protest actions, arguing they would be counterproductive.
