U.S Dollar rate crashes with Republican Healthcare bill

Following news that Republicans were unable to repeal and replace Obamacare, the U.S. dollar went crashing alongside the Republican Healthcare on Monday, Politico reports.

According to CNN, the U.S dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency dropped to the lowest it has ever been since September 2016. The dollar also weakened against the Euro, the British Pound and Japanese Yen.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich declared Monday night that Senate Republicans need to “perform”, following the Senate Republicans inability to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Gingrich told Fox News,  “We’ve had six months of patience. It’s time to perform, frankly, about healthcare, [if] you can’t pass the gigantic bill, tell me what you can pass, but get something done that starts to move”.

The Republicans have been campaigning for over seven years to repeal Obamacare and a failure to repeal the bill is a huge defeat for the Trump administration which has been unable to score any legislative wins since Trump assumed office.

According to Politico, Gingrich advised that the GOP lawmakers learn all the lessons they could from their efforts to repeal ObamaCare

He said, “First of all, you’ve had six months to look at what happened, what worked, whatdidn’t. It’s like a football team at halftime, it’s like a military operation in the middle of – you’ve got to take steps, you have to learn lessons. I think that they’ve got to figure out how to do things faster, more simply.”
