‘Waste of public funds’ | Osinbajo speaks on construction of new VP residence

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has described as a ‘waste of public funds’ the construction of a new residence for the ‘Vice President’.

Speaking at the pastors and leaders retreat of the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, Osinbajo said the current VP residence, Aguda House, is suitable for living and up to standard.

He however said the construction of the building has to be completed, but noted that it would be used for something else, other than a proposed residence of the Vice President.

“There is no need for a new Vice President’s house; it is a kind of waste; we are now in a situation where we cannot abandon it; it has to be completed and used for a different thing.”

Osinbajo also said that the administration of former presidents- Goodluck Jonathan and late Umaru Musa Yar Adua did not construct a single road in the country.

He further stated that the entire Nigerian system is suffering from lack of integrity while stressing that corruption is not limited to a few individuals.

He said: “Unless we tackle graft, we may not be able to achieve something. The federal government in the past 10 years could not build a single new road, not repairing existing ones alone.”

“Now we have a president who will not steal money and who will not allow anybody to steal money”, Osinbajo added.

Furthermore, the Vice President made mention of the controversial State House Medical Centre, which he said is for the use of all Nigerians.
