It has to be said that South African talents are really pulling their weight in the international film and TV landscape. Especially women. Pearl Thusi (Quantico); Alice Krige (Star Trek, Thor: The Dark World); Terry Pheto (BET series Madiba); and Connie Chiume (Black Panther).

Now, according to Deadline, South African actress Phumzile Sitole has bagged a role in the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black. As you already know, the female jail-themed show is coming back for a sixth season, with an already stellar ensemble in Piper (Taylor Schilling), Suzanne/”Crazy Eyes”(Uzo Aduba) and Red (Kate Mulgrew). Sitole will play the role of Antoinette “Akers” Kerson and will appear in nine episodes.

Obtaining her BA in Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town and went on to get her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre at Columbia University, New York, Sitole has a string of stage play appearances under her belt but she’s prominently known for TV roles in Rights of Passage, and the CBS show The Good Fight.

The official trailer for OITNB season 6 dropped on July 9, revealing how the inmates are dealing and adapting with their new surroundings, following the riot in season five. New episodes will official land on Netflix on July 27.
