Navy stops attempted bombing of Warri Refinery

The Nigerian Navy has foiled an attempted destruction of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, Warri, Delta State by suspected militants.

According to reports, the explosive went off at about 9:25pm on Thursday.

It was gathered that the militants who were in a speedboat refused to stop for a check when naval officers opened fire on them, leading to an explosion.

Commander of the NNS Delta, Commodore Joseph Dzunve, confirmed the development.

He said, “There was an encounter between the militants and my men. Some explosives in the boat went off after my men shot at them. We adjudge that it was an attempt to sabotage the PPMC.

“At this moment we don’t know if any of the occupants in the boat died because they managed to escape from the scene of the incident. Investigation is ongoing, people should remain calm.”
