News filtered in on Twitter on Sunday with the hashtag #RipMayowa.
The news was announced by her brother, Foye, on his Twitter account, @Asiwaju_Foye at 1pm today. A source at the NGO behind the campaign who wishes to remain anonymous until a formal statement confirmed this to YNaija a few minutes ago.
“Yes it is true,” he said. “She died in the hospital in South Africa. I don’t have any more information apart from that for now.”
She tried, we tried but God's will prevailed #RipMayowa

Nigerians on Twitter have begun to pay touching tribute.
May Allah forgive #SaveMayowa's shortcomings, she was indeed a fighter and she fought until the last minute. May Jannat be her final abode.

Hearing that Mayowa has now passed on… too late now to #SaveMayowa. May she RIP.

Others came for popular blogger Linda Ikeji for reporting on her blog that the fund raising was a scam.
I personally feel at this stage Linda Ikeji should be sued since #savemayowa wasn't a scam. It isn't just about apologies.. R.I.P though ?

Who knows maybe #Mayowa could have survived if not that little delay caused by @lindaikeji SCAM story on her blog. https://t.co/udVLyNRoa9

She came, she fought, she won our hearts – and now, may she rest in peace.
