Since his election as the Senate President on June 9, Bukola Saraki, has been running the affairs of the Senate from his private residence in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This is because the official homes being built for National Assembly’s principal officers are still under construction.

The former official residence of the Senate President and those of other principal officers had been sold in 2010 at give-away prices by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under the monetisation programme.

The new homes being constructed by the government for the National Assembly leaders are expected to gulp approximately N27.1bn.

According to Vanguard newspapers, “the new residences are located at the three Arms Zone and on the left side as one approaches the main entrance to the National Assembly.”

Former Senate President, David Mark; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; and his deputy, Usman Nafada, had in 2010, bought their official homes as well as other lawmakers in that Assembly.
