An Indian teenager is said to have killed herself because her mother ordered her to get off social networking site, Facebook.

13-year-old Aditi Gupta hanged herself in her family home after her mother, Mohana told her she was spending too much time on the site.

The 36-year-old mother told her daughter:

 ‘I want that Facebook account closed by the time I come home.’

There have been renewed concerns in recent times about the effects that excessive use of social media can have on children.
