A few hours ago, the mace of the Nigerian Senate was taken from the floor of the upper legislative chamber. According to the Senate, the unfortunate incident happened when a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege led about ten thugs into the red chamber to cart away its symbol of authority.

In its response to the incident, the Senate described the action of Omo-Agege as treasonable.

Following the development, Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani in a post on his social media page said he laid down his belt to act as a mace. Huh? Belt as mace? Sigh!

Update: The Nigeria Police has arrested Senator Ovie Omo Agege over the carting away of the mace at the Senate. He was picked up at the National Assembly by a combined team of police officers led by FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar Bello.
