2Baba pays tribute to the “most important woman in his life” | 5 major highlights from #BuckwyldNBreathless

2Baba’s acclaimed concert, Buckwyld and Breathless has just passed and everyone who made it to the Eko Convention Centre venue is still revelling in the beauty of the show hours after.

On Sunday night, some of Nigeria’s finest artistes – Tiwa Savage, Flavour, Timaya, Paul Okoye, Mr 2kay, Kelly Hansome, Joe El – each took turns in serving the audience with quality performances and we didn’t expect anything less.

Here are 5 major highlights from the show:

  1. Tiwa Savage brought Flavour on stage in the most unanticipated fashion:

First, it had genuinely skipped our collective consciousness that there is a connection between both artistes. In 2014, the duo released a track – Oyi remix and when they were both announced as headliners, we didn’t imagine they’d bring it back to the Buckwyld and Breathless. But they did…

And in the most unexpected way. After Tiwa’s hour-long animated performance, she began to undress right on stage drawing oohs and aahs from the audience while the track played in the background.

Before you jump out of your skin, she stripped to her knickers and bralet, feigned a shiver while Flavour walked on stage with a coat.

Now here’s the best part: They actually did not perform the song. The theatric was only to introduce Flavour for his own performance. That’s how to kill a show.

2. 2Baba’s tribute to his mother:

This one made for the most emotional moments of the night and we completely loved it.

When 2Baba announced he was dedicating a song to “the most important woman in his life”, the crowd was quick to assume he meant his wife, Annie Idibia. But alas…

It was a song for mama and it got some of us teary-eyed. A slideshow of the older Mrs Idibia’s photos ran in the background while 2Baba gave a rendition of a new track he promised to release last night.

3. Kaffy’s son gave Tiwa Savage a run for her money:

You know what they say about the apple not falling far from the tree?

Well, we saw that idiom brought to life on the Buckwyld and Breathless stage last night as dancer, Kaffy’s son, Sean tackled Tiwa Savage in a dance battle.

And the boy is only 5! We wonder what the rest of us are doing with our lives.

4. Efya is the truth:

You know Ghanaian singer, Efya from Mr Eazi’s Skintight and Wizkid’s Daddy Yo.

What you don’t know is that Efya is more talented than she ever gets any props for. Her performance was so captivating it left many of us breathless, just as it should be.

Thank you, Efya!

5. An ode to Lagos:

Lagos is the physical embodiment of the Nigerian dream and we were reminded of this as Buckwyld and Breathless certainly lived up to its theme #TheLagosDream.

With various brilliant interludes by host, Andre Blaze who showed up to tell variations of the Lagos story, the show was certainly just as 2Baba had promised.
