Saraki gives Senate 2 weeks deadline to probe CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has given a 2-week deadline to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, to conclude the probe of corruption allegation against the chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.

The probe on Umar began as a result of the petition sent to the Senate, containing allegations of fraud, bribery and inflation of contracts by a Non Governmental Group under the aegis of Anti-Corruption Network, which is operated by Senator Dino Melaye.

A member of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Obinna Ogba, on Thursday presented a petition against Umar on the floor of the Senate during plenary.

Ogba, representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, said the petition was signed by Ajaso I Ajaso on behalf of a group, and submitted for investigation.

He further explained that the petitioners had not sought judicial remedy against Umar but are seeking the Senate’s intervention by probing the corrupt allegations contained in the document.

Saraki then referred the petition to the committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions and asked the chairman, Samuel Anyanwu, to carry out a thorough investigation and submit its report in two weeks.
