Mo Abudu’s latest entertainment venture, EbonyLife TV launches in a few days (the 1st of July, to be precise.) The past few months have seen various parties involved hard at work on developing original content for the burgeoning TV Network, which aims to “change everything you know about Africa.”

Here are 5 reasons we are looking forward to the launch.

The Banky and Tiwa Show

Okay, this is more for Tiwa than any other reason (sorry Banky) but we’re intrigued. On the one hand we can’t help but snark at the gills at the thought of stars of the caliber of Banky W and Tiwa Savage hosting a TV show – Seriously, would we ever see Rihanna and John Legend hosting a TV show? That kinds stuff is left to the has-beens (aka Ashanti on Fuse and Bow Wow on BET’s 106 and Park). On the other hand, this is exactly what has us interested; two legitimately huge musicians hosting a TV show is a pretty novel concept, and we’re curious as to how it’ll all play out. Plus, again, it’s Tiwa. We’ll tune into whatever she’s doing.

Tope Oshin Ogun’s New Horizons

Tope Oshin Ogun really needs to introduction, but to the uninitiated out there (in other words, those of you who’ve been living in a cave,) she’s a multiple awards winning filmmaker, Director, Producer, Actor, Dialogue Coach and Casting Director. Her most recent project is the feature film Journey To Self, which was nominated for ‘Achievement In Soundtrack’ for the 2013 African Movie Academy Award. She journeyed to Tinapa back in February to work on a film for EbonyLife TV. The short film, titled New Horizons, is described as “a brilliant and pulsating short film that spotlights the plight of women across Africa who have to bear the pains of domestic abuse, a crime far too familiar but rarely spoken about.” Top actresses Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele and Uche Jombo will star in the project, on which they will also act as Executive Producers.

Oreka Godis’s Love Lounge

Lovers of Oreka who have been craving their fix of the former radio host since her departure from Beat FM and weren’t satisfied by her Gidi Up stint or her 3Live Chicks gig get to experience even more of the media personality on this show. According to Oreka herself, the show is “informative, it is cheeky, it has a lot of sass and comes with quirky quests, respectible experts in their highly professional fields.” These professionals include sexologists, counsellors, psycotherapists, life coaches, motivational speakers and relationship experts, just in case you were (or weren’t, doesn’t matter, you’ll watch either way,) curious.

Dolapo Oni

Picture 4 (1)

Regardless of what we think of Dolapo Oni’s robotic acting on Jacob’s Cross, she’s a pretty awesome host. She was undoubtedly a highlight on Mnet’s 53Extra, and we can only look forward to seeing her co-hosting Moments With Mo on EbonyLife TV. (Let’s face it, Mo could use the help in that hosting chair.)

Mo’ Abudu herself.

A TV station is a big deal, no matter how you want to spin it. A TV Station with the lofty aims of EbonyLife TV, is an even bigger story (seriously, N2billion, as it’s all rumoured to be costing, is no joke). Even if it were the brainchild of someone else, we’d be impressed. But considering the fact it’s from the stable of Mo’ Abudu, a woman who’s already made a name for herself as someone who brings her ideas to fruition no matter what, and is never deterred by failure, we can’t help but fawn.
