Acknowledge your emotions | The Daily Vulnerable

The Daily Vulnerable

Chude Jideonwo

When something I don’t like happens to me, I acknowledge it. I write it down and make it as realistic as possible. I don’t go into denial. I don’t panic. Instead, I break it down.

I never deceive myself into thinking I can outrun my own emotions.

When I feel anger or rage, I acknowledge it – even before I go into hope, or love, or forgiveness, I first deal with the anger. I deal with the rage. I acknowledge the pain. I tell myself exactly what I feel, then I ask, “what do I do with the anger? Why am I angry? Why am I disappointed? Why do I feel shame?”

Then, I decide on what I will do about how I feel moving forward. Once I decide, I start doing it gently, step by step.

I take charge of my emotional flourishing.
