The Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday, said that all government officials in Nigeria since 1999 are guilty of the miscalculations that have led to the present problems of Nigeria.

The senate president stated this while speaking with newsmen and answering questions on the secrecy of the National Assembly’s budget and allegations of corruption against the lawmaking body by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a recent letter.

Saraki stated that:

“We have all been here since 1999 up to the recent past when things were not done right, we are all part of it. I was there, you were there, every other political office holder in different capacities was there as well.

“My own view from the 8th National Assembly is that the time for collective participation for the good of all Nigerians is here with us in line with the change mantra of the present administration. We are all on the same page for things to be done differently.

He pressed further by stating that it was a wrong move to blame any individual or institution for the problems affecting Nigeria. And that what is needed is for everyone to join hands for the betterment of Nigeria.

“I think what we need now from all stakeholders, is more of cooperation, encouragement and participation as oppose to trying to hold one person responsible for the mistakes of the past that we are all part of. It is clearly not the right thing needed now.”

He also promised that the details of the N115 billion budget of the National Assembly will be made public this year –as against previous practice when the budget of NASS was shrouded in secrecy.

The senate president also condemned the Boko Haram attack on Dalori, Borno State.
