The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has described the impeachment notice served on the Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, who defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) two days to the March 28 presidential election, as null and void.

The APC in a statement by its publicity secretary in the state, Abayomi Adesanya, said Olanusi could not have been served an impeachment notice on Monday since Olanusi had gone on a routine medical check-up since Saturday.

He explained that the law stipulates that an impeachment notice can only be served in person and not in absentia.

The statement read, “We are aware of the purported impeachment notice served on the Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, by the Ondo State House of Assembly. The deputy governor had written to the Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, on Friday April 17, 2015, with Ref. No. OBG/A/136/67 that he will be going on a routine medical check-up outside the country.

“Olanusi had since travelled out on April 18. So, it is laughable for the rubber-stamp House of Assembly to have claimed it has served the deputy governor an impeachment notice knowing that the law does not permit one to serve an impeachment notice in absentia. The notice is a nullity.”
