Boxing Day: Pastor Adeboye goes to prison

by Isi Esene

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye has chosen to spend the Boxing Day with inmates of the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons in Lagos.

The pastor reportedly  posted it on the social networking site, Twitter, saying Jesus came to the world to save all mankind and “not a selected few.”

The pastor tweeted, “H(appy) Boxing D(ay), I’m at KiriKiri Max(imum) Security Prison this morning to fellowship with the prisoners and guards. Jesus died for all. Not selected few.”

The former Mathematics lecturer has often been criticized for inviting highly placed Nigerians, especially presidents and governors, to important events organized by the church at its Redemption Camp on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The gridlock caused by this high-level movement has also being widely criticized by observers.

Adeboye apparently used the tweet to debunk criticisms that his church has been showing preference for highly placed Nigerians.
