Despite N3.87bn allocation in 2016 budget, there are ‘no drugs’ in Aso Rock clinic

State House Medical Centre, which provides medical services to the Presidency and their families, aides, staff of the State House and other entitled public servants, have run out of drugs and other essentials despite the N3.87 billion allocated to it in this year’s budget, the Punch reports.

According to the report, operations in the medical facility have been crippled and the center is slowly becoming a shadow of itself.

The center, located in Asokoro, Abuja, also serves as a training facility for medical personnel and house officers.

Patients at the center who spoke to the Punch disclosed that they were being asked to buy drugs from outside the clinic because it is not available.

Patients are also sent a text messages to come with whatever item(s) needed for their treatment.

One of such text messages sent to a patient by the center’s management and was obtained by The Punch reads: “Mr. XXX (names withheld), when u (sic) are coming for dialysis on Monday, buy IVF Normal Saline to be used for ur (sic) dialysis. The office doesn’t have it. Buy like four pieces.”

The report also disclosed that the center has began cancelling the dialysis of patients with kidney problems.

A patient who spoke to The Punch disclosed that the center’s management cancelled his session because of the non-availability of bloodline.

He showed the text message sent to him which reads:

“Gudevening (sic), we can’t dialize (sic) you tomorrow because we don’t have bloodline. When it is available, I will get back to you. Pls (sic) dialyse (sic) somewhere else. Thanks.”

The patient said: “As a result of the stress I passed through, by the time I returned home, I was very weak. My health situation deteriorated midnight and my people rushed me to the hospital. I was discharged about three days after.”

Other patients at the center disclosed that the center doesn’t have even malaria drugs.

Another patient reportedly said that, “The clinic does not even have ordinary paracetamol. Paracetamol was included in the list of drugs they asked me to go and buy recently. Before now, they were giving us drugs.”
