Donald Trump personally scripted his son’s account of Russia meeting

President Trump personally scripted and dictated the press statement Donald Trump Jr, released to the press that falsely downplayed the significance of a 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer.

According to the Washington Post article, the president personally intervened in the original plan, which was to release a full and truthful account of the meeting between Trump Jr, Jared Kushner and then Trump campaign manager, Paul Manafort and be ahead of the story before things got too messy.

Instead of doing this as planned, Trump against counsel from advisers and lawyers,  reportedly dictated a statement on his flight from the G-20 summit back to Washington. In his statement, Trump wrote that his son and the Russian Lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya “primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children”, emphasizing that the 2016 presidential campaign was not the subject of the meeting.

New York Times published the statement as it was given on the 8th of July, and the numerous accounts of the meeting made it clear it was a bigger story than the statement let on. The real story came through and it was that Trump Jr. attended the meeting with the intentions of getting dirt on  Democrat rival Hillary Clinton, and then Trump Jr. himself released the email chain showing him “loving it”.
