President Trump’s first son Donald Trump Jr. was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton he agreed to meet with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three White House advisers briefed on the meeting, New York Times reports.
The Times reported that the meeting happened ,Saturday. The meeting which was held at Trump Tower June 9, 2016, just weeks after President Trump got the Republican nomination is a major turning point in the federal investigations into the Russia’s meddling in the presidential election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians.

Donald Trump Jr. first said the meeting was primarily about adoptions and didn’t mention Hillary Clinton when asked about it. Trump changed his story Sunday, after being presented with The Times’s findings, he offered a new account. He said in a statement that the meeting with the Russian lawyer had been at the request of an acquaintance from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant.
Trump said she then switched the conversation to adoption of Russian children and the Magnitsky Act, an American law that blacklists suspected Russian human rights abusers. “It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting,” Mr. Trump said.
