This week, the 8 contesting bands left in the Trophy Extra Special Band Season 2 competition, were given the difficult task of transforming all-time great indigenous songs into reggae hits!
Making the competition stiffer, the bands were made to battle with the same songs. Flash Band and Tritunez recreated Tuface’s classic titled ‘Rain Drops’. The Benedicts and Update Vibes remixed Tiwa Savage and Wizkid’s 2016 hit, ‘Bad’; Elixir Band and The Alian Tribe put their own twist to Patoranking and Tiwa Savage’s ‘Girlie’, whilst Bandhitz and Genial Sounds transformed Waje’s ‘I wish’ into melodies that reggae greats would’ve been proud of.
Every band performed exciting renditions but two bands in particular – Elixir Band and The Alian Tribe – thrilled us and gave the judges and extremely difficult task of choosing the bottom band from the two performances. That said, this episode also witnessed the return to form of fan favourites, Bandhitz, after facing the scare of elimination last week.
After performances that could sell-out concerts Tritunez, Update Vibes, Elixir Band and Bandhitz made it to the top four. Leaving Flash Band, The Benedicts, The Alian Tribe and Genial Sounds facing possible elimination.
At the end of the show, the judges – 2Baba, Cobhams Asuquo and Timi Dakolo – surprised viewers once again as all bands in the bottom four were saved! The battle gets even tougher as all 8 bands are in the race to win 10 million Naira and a brand new set of musical instruments.
