As part of its commitment to give back to the society, Nigeria’s youth centric telecommunications network, Etisalat in partnership with the Lagos Empowerment & Research Network (LEARN) held a career counselling programme for selected public school students in Lagos on Thursday, October 8th, 2015, in order to put the students on the right career path and motivate them towards achieving their dreams.
The career counselling programme which is in its 13th edition served as an avenue for employees of Etisalat Nigeria to impact the students with nuggets and doctrines about various career paths such as Project Management, Engineering & Digitalization, and Law.
The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher, represented by the company secretary, Aidevo Odu-Thomas, explained that the choice of a career path is a decision that many have made mistakes overtime and Etisalat is committed to making sure it equips the Nigerian youth with the skills, nuggets and doctrines needed to excel after school. According to her, “Career counselling is one of our numerous initiatives targeted at making sure students are able to develop their potentials and deliver optimally in the labour market”.
Nigerian Singer-songwriter, Seyi Shay was also present at the event and she admonished the students to give all it takes to their education, in order to be successful in life. She also entertained the students and guests with a few of her hit songs, such as ‘Irawo’, ‘Murder’ and ‘Crazy’.
The schools in attendance at the Career Counseling Programme include Army Cantonment Junior Secondary School; Army Cantonment Senior Secondary School; Army Children Junior Secondary School; Army Children Senior Secondary School; Community Junior High School, Maryland; Community Senior High School, Maryland; Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Junior Secondary School; Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Senior Secondary School; Mende Junior High School and Mende Senior High School; all in Lagos State.
