eXploring, the best show on television, has debuted with Denola Grey and Zina Anumudu
For lovers of Art, the debut episode of entertaining and informative new show, eXploring is no doubt something that would be watched over and over again.
The hosts, Denola and Zina went on a mission to eXplore the different forms of art on the streets of Lagos.
The main aim of the mission was to compare art curated in a gallery and the others displayed in public places.
Mode, a beautiful and talented painter opened up her gallery for the duo to eXplore while she explained her art and what inspired most of her paintings.
Prominent in her gallery is the Indigo room where she explored the similarities between flowers, guns and death in a stunning representation of brush strokes and colors.
It was an amazing sight to behold!
Speaking on her passion and inspiration, Mode said “I’m really inspired by creation as an artist.”
She further revealed the concept behind the creation of her studio and gallery, both of which are in the same place.
“I wanted to create something that was unique, and also of our culture so I created this studio space based on my origin.
“My mum is from Lagos and my dad is from Abeokuta, so I blended the experience together; which typifies Nigeria.”
Mode’s art gallery is a precise representation of the diversities of Nigeria, even as she locally juxtaposes the busy and harsh reality of Lagos with the serene tropical life in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Moving on from Mode’s awesome gallery, Denola and Zina proceded to Maryland, a popular part of the Lagos suburbs where Akinbia, another excellent painter plied his trade.
In contrast to Mode’s gallery, Akinbia displayed his many colourful paintings on the side of the road while his workplace is just a shed a few paces away from the express road.
Despite the makeshift nature of his workplace, Akinbia’s art spoke of everlasting and ethereal beauty.
The colourful nature of his artworks resonated serenity and expertise and it was of little wonder when he declared that he had been painting for two decades.
Akinbia said he learned painting from an Art school after his father, who is an architect taught him how to draw.
The sheer brilliance and passion of the two painters is a point of inspiration for budding artists who are still trying to find a foothold in the market.
eXploring is a compelling 30-minute series built on interesting interview topics and investigation that provides an in-depth look into the sights, sounds and realities of living in Nigeria – with discussions on stories, issues and events targeted at young Nigerians.
A statement which was effectively projected in this debut episode of the show!
