The website set up by the federal government for the recruitment of 500,000 teachers has crashed following massive visits from prospective applicants.
The website, www.portal.npower.gov.ng, crashed on Sunday -the same day the recruitment process began- due to heavy traffic.
When visited, the website shows the following message “An error occurred. Sorry, the page you are looking for is currently unavailable. Please, try again later. If you are the system administrator of this resource, then you should check the error log for details. Faithfully yours, nginx.”
However speaking on the crashed website, the Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Education, Anthony Akuneme, said, “The recruitment process is on. The website has been publicised in the media. It is too early to get the response and number of applicants since it just began.”
The recruitment of teachers was one of the initiatives by the federal government to provide employment for Nigerians through a process known as N-Power.
