Reports that the death toll has risen since the anti-fuel subsidy removal strike by the NLC began on 9 January, 2012 has become a source of concern to the nation. Today, day 2 of the trike, over 30 vehicles were burnt in Kano government house and reports claim that the death toll has increased to 11.

 President Goodluck Jonathan met his security chiefs earlier on today as he came under mounting pressure concerning the nationwide strike amid Boko Haram violence issues.

Here is a brief recap on how the second day of the #FuelSubsidyRemoval strike was observed in some states across the nation.

Reports from Asaba claim the situation is returning to normal already as buses are back on the roads, Ahoada in Rivers State is quiet in most parts, nobody matching the streets waving an aluta flag but dreadful news coming from Oshogbo claim a man was murdered early this morning when some protesters began to fight. Also, bonfires were set up in the middle of some roads in the town.

As early as 7am this morning, angry youths in their hundreds blocked the busy Lagos/ Ibadan expressway, Ibafo, Ogun State. Canopies were set up right in the middle of the road with a DJ playing music to crowd to spur them on. Traffic was not hindered as there were no vehicles moving.

In the North, reports claim security men and military were taking nothing to chance. Though the protests were generally peaceful save for a few burning tires, the military with assistance from the police dispersed protesters at about 10:55am in Kaduna.

 Today, while protests recorded a higher turnout than that of Monday in Yauri-Kebbi State with shops and banks shut down for the day, up in Minna, car movement has improved and more people have returned to their business activities. With the on-going curfew still in full swing in Kano and after the deaths recorded yesterday, the streets were quiet today with no protest in most area, same went for Bauchi too although the banks were still shut.
