The anticipation building up to the airing of Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was unique for many people. Yet, very few people could have envisaged it would ignite a conversation about spousal protection and as a result draw Peter and Omolola Okoye into the discussion.
The singer, whose break up from the PSquare music group he was in with his twin brother was partly blamed on a frosty relationship between his wife and family, following a said decision to protect his wife. At the time, his wife had received some flak because many blamed her for getting between family.
In retrospect, and with what many see as Prince Harry’s valiant effort to protect his wife from a toxic family relationship, Peter is being newly hailed for what he did.
It appears the Duke and Duchess have changed the game not just in the one-time empires, but also it seems in Nigeria.
Hopefully, moving forward, more women will enjoy the grace that the Duchess seems to have received from Nigerian commentators and not the vitriol that Mrs Okoye did.
Peter chose to challenge disrespect for his wife and family, what do you #ChooseToChallenge?
