Got beef with PHCN? Complain to @NERCNG on Twitter

by Tolu Orekoya

NEPAPHCN has a  Nigerian Electricity Regulatatory Commision (NERC), i.e. the Commission is supposed to put the Power Holding Company of Nigeria in check. The equavalent of the Commission in other countries takes power companies to task over power outages and unjust tariff increases.

NERC has recently raised its profile by jumping on the Twitter bandwagon. (I hope this is not another million Naira scandal brewing?) and has asked that you tweet your questions and comments about them. Their Twitter handle is @nercng, and they also have a Facebook account set up for your viewing pleasure.

‘Looks like the Commission is off to a rough start on Twitter; one of @NERCNG’s first tweets was a (dead) link to the new tarrifs that will hit the country on June 1.

This should be fun!

  1. Since last year, PHCN hardly brings power to my neighbourhood but issues very disturbing and annoying bills at the end of every month. I pay as high as N12,000.00, sometimes N10,000.00.

We have some bad eggs in that parastatal who go about giving people exorbitant and outrageous bills with the view of meeting targets. Please somebody should explain why a 3 beedroom appartment should pay up to that amount on monthly basis.

I have equally visited their office to get a clearer explanations but all to no avail.
