Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has risen to the top ten in the weekly YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for Ministers. Kachikwu, who is saddled with the responsibility of effecting major changes in the petroleum industry, took the big jump following the reduction in the price of diesel by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The significant drop (about 42%) makes the commodity to now sell for between N175 – N200, as against the previous price of about N300.
In the week under review, Babatunde Fashola, the Minister for Power, Works and Housing, accused the National Assembly of making significant changes to the Ministry’s budget. The former Lagos governor, said, “the budget of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was reduced by the National Assembly from N31bn to N10bn”, while that of the “2nd Niger bridge was reduced from N15bn to N10bn and about N3bn or so was removed from the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road budget.’’ He added that the lawmakers also cut the budget for power supply and that they inserted over 100 roads into the budget.
In its defence, the Senate accused the minister of misinforming Nigerians.
Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, dropped out of the top ten in the week’s rank. Amaechi’s slump is due to the needless exchange of words in engaged in with Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike. In what appears to be a show of shame, both men have been at war since the outcome of the 2015 elections in the state, and the minister took it a step higher when he threatened to expose the governor’s wife, saying, “…But the problem with Nyesom Wike, and I want you to state this if he doesn’t shut up his mouth and do his work I will bring his wife to the focus. You see I’ve been very matured not to talk about his wife. But if Wike does not close his mouth and talk about my wife anymore, I will bring out his wife. My wife will never do such, we don’t do family business. I care about transparency. My wife is a trader. She buys and sells and Wike knows that.”
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has for the third consecutive stayed on the top spot. In the week under review, two South African communities that issued quit notices to Nigerians living in the country, withdrew their statements. This withdrawal has the imprint of the ministry, which has been working assiduously to avert any form of attack on Nigerians in South African.
