In bad taste? Oscar Pistorius’s killed girlfriend’s reality TV show will air as planned

Reeva Steenkamp

SABC1 will not be pulling the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 reality show from its schedule, despite the shock death of contestant Reeva Steenkamp.

Creator of the show Samantha Moon said that the decision was taken after much deliberation.

She said that the show’s team were devastated by the tragic loss of Steenkamp.

“Reeva was a wonderful human being and an extremely talented and intelligent woman,” said Moon.

“Her kind and loving spirit was evident to all who knew her and her zest for life will be truly missed.”

Moon said that they had felt blessed and privileged to have known the 30-year-old model.

“Words cannot express how saddened we are by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Reeva’s family and friends.”

Moon added that it had been a difficult decision to continue airing the programme.

“Reeva was an intelligent, beautiful and amazing woman and we feel it would be an injustice to keep that unknown from those who did not know her personally,” said Moon.

“Every episode that she is in, every frame that she so ably dominates shines with her light, her laughter echoes in every conversation, and we want to share these special memories with the rest of South Africa.”

The show will air today on SABC1 at 6.30pm.
