Insiders: Governors visit to Buhari negates common sense

Insiders believe that the recent visit by governors to the President in London is a depiction of nothing but shame. They believe the visits show how unserious we have become as a nation and also the latest game by the President to mask the truth.

“The visit of some governors and other persons to President Buhari in London was totally unnecessary and it negates common sense. We are acting like a nation without a sense of shame. Our leadership system requires a new thinking. The latest mockery by the CNN has underscored that” said an Insider with the PDP.

Another Insider, speaking in a similar vein said, “The visit by the governors is just the latest game by the Presidency to shield the truth about the President’s illness. Why was there no video of the event? While pictures are said to be worth a thousand words, they don’t go far enough in this situation.”

It is not surprising that most of the Insiders are fed up with the shenanigans surrounding the President’s illness, especially how the Presidency and a few set of people have struggled ingeniously to mask the truth of the President’s illness. Most Insiders do believe that there is nothing wrong in a President being sick; the problem is the avoidable controversy that has been created with his illness. If we have to play politics with everything, do we have to do so with the President’s health? The Presidency and the President should come out clean on the nature of the illness and douse the tension and the uncertainty that has been created with it.

Contrary to this line of thought, another Insider with the Labour Party believes there is nothing in all these. He stated that “I do not see anything wrong in anybody particularly the governors in visiting the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, because as it is, Buhari remains the President of Nigeria so long as he has not been declared permanently incapacitated, and so long as he has not been removed from office. As it is, the Acting President is there, and that is what the constitution says. The constitution did not say anything about ‘If the President is away’ but that ‘if the President is on medical vacation’. And I don’t see anything wrong in somebody visiting someone who is on medical vacation”.

“This shows the level of ridicule that the APC and the Buhari government has reduced Nigeria to. You can see that Nigeria has become a laughing stock in the world, look at the CNN opinion poll and the Washington Post. We have been reduced to ridicule by this government. It is quite unfortunate that people would now have to use tax payers’ money to see Buhari as if he is some form of deity. It is very sad. We are just waiting for when religious leaders will also take turn, the civil society and even the media. This is not what leadership is about, the reason why Africans continue to under develop Africa is because of things like this. The President promised to deliver change, look at what he is delivering to us. He has a four year mandate; he must come back and deliver on the change he promised. He would not complete his four year mandate in London Hospital. If the President has become incapacitated, he should do the honourable thing and resign, he campaigned on integrity and we cannot see that now. Look at Senator McCain, that is what leadership is about, telling your people the truth. The President obviously lacks the integrity he has claimed over the years because he has actually been unable to tell Nigerians what is wrong with him, even Prof Yemi Osinbajo does not know what is wrong with the President, it is bad,” said another Insider.

Another Insider with the PDP mused that “The first issue is that the Presidency is not handling the President’s health matter properly… too many ambiguities and lies that is giving room for speculations and rumours which is not healthy for the stability of the Nation. Secondly I am still wondering what impact or purpose the governors’ visit to the President serves. Just waste of resources that could have been channeled to development.”
