Iraq declares victory over ISIS

The Iraqi prime minister, Haider Jawad Kadhim Al-Abadi has reportedly said that the last Isis fighters have now been driven out of Mosul which is where they first declared their ‘caliphate’.

After a nine month offensive, he declared ‘victory’ over so-called Islamic State.

Around 30 Isis fighters were killed trying to escape by swimming across the Tigris river, despite previously vowing to fight to the death.
