Ivankantrol: What we see from this line in the Trump interview

by Alexander O. Onukwue

In his first six months at the White House, President Trump has taken a beating from the media for spending too much time away from the White House.

It has not been for meetings like the G7 and G20, or so much about foreign trips (though the recent one to France was viewed as an escape from home troubles), but for the frequent vacations to the Mar-a-Lago, the Trumps private resort.

The explanatory notes in the excerpts from the New York Times Interview with Trump say that “At one point, the president’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump, appeared at the door, and her daughter, Arabella, entered the room”.

It would appear an ordinary footnote to explain the general ambience of the Oval office – the President’s official public office – in which the meeting took place. But you can trust that the New York Times have consciously thrown it in there for anyone who wants ideas about the influence of Ivanka on her father’s politics, as well as if President Trump is actually treating the White House with all of the dignity it deserves.

Ivanka was in the news a few weeks ago for taking her father’s seat in Hamburg; in this interview, she “appeared at the door” while he was speaking exclusively to a media house.

President Trump has come into the White House with the most number of grown up children each of whom have been under constant coverage in the Press. Donald Jr is presently under fire for dealings with Russia leading up to the 2016 elections, while Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, will also testify before a US Senate Committee on his own involvements.

Perhaps we should not hammer the daughter-in-chief too much for being this concerned about the future of her father, brother and husband’s future, but it will continue to stir interest where she becomes too influential for comfort.
