Just In: Suicide bomber hits crowded Maiduguri market

by Akan Ido

A suicide bomber has reportedly detonated high-calibre explosives at a poultry market in the heart of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Though details of this attack are still unclear, witnesses who spoke with Premium Times say the attack occurred around 12:20pm.

The suicide bomber was said to be a girl who appeared to be as young as 10-years-old.

The spokesperson of the Borno Police, Gideon Jibrin, confirmed the explosion saying security operatives are heading to the scene to assess the extent of damage done.

A source told the news platform that the bomber’s body was completely shattered. “Because of the high calibre explosive she strapped to her body, the upper part of her body was flung apart and found about 500 metres away,” the source said.

The source said the explosion occurred shortly after another suspected bomber was apprehended in the area.

We shall bring you more details as soon as we get them.
