Just tragic: 30-year-old jailed 20 years for killing his father over two pieces of fish

A 30-year-old man, Opukeme George was yesterday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Asaba High Court for killing his father with a cutlass.

George who is from Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State was found guilty of killing his father after a quarrel over missing fish.

The accused person who reportedly testified for himself, admitted he killed his father, Kosine George, on Christmas Eve of 2011 after being provoked when he (Opukeme) asked who took two pieces of fish he kept.

The prosecution team called a witness to prove its case beyond doubt that the accused willingly committed the crime.

While giving his judgement, the presiding judge, Justice M.O. Omovie said, “in the final analysis after reading the written submissions by both counsel, I hold that the accused is guilty of manslaughter. I hereby convict you for manslaughter.”
