Kehinde Bankole will play Queen Moremi in the upcoming stage play ‘Queen Moremi the Musical’

The upcoming stage play Queen Moremi the musical has been recruiting popular actors in its cast ensemble since the play was announced last month. A project from Bolanle Austen Peters’ eponymous production outfit, the play has picked up names like Big Brother Naija alum BamBam, Femi Branch, Bimbo Manuel, Deyemi Okanlawon, Kunle Afolayan, Kemi Lala Akindoju, and even Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. According to Yoruba history,

Queen Moremi is the daughter to one of Ife’s bravest hunter-warriors Lukugba and Princess Olunbe of Offa. The story of Queen Moremi is pivotal to the history and liberation of the entire Yoruba race, and Super Story star Kehinde Bankole will play the courageous queen.

Frankly, I think Bankole is cut out to play the role thanks to her long history on the Wale Adenuga led Super Story, many seasons of which was inspired by Yoruba culture. She will be joining other accomplished thespians on stage to dramatise this authentic African story. When asked about why the story of Queen Moremi is crucial, director-producer Bolanle Austen Peters responded: “The purpose and aim of the project is to keep the identity, values, history and culture alive especially amongst youth, upcoming next generation, starting from within Nigeria and progressing on to those in the diaspora.”

Queen Moremi the Musical is following a short string of successful precedents: Saro the Musical, Wakaa the Musical and Fela and the Kalaluta Queens. The stage play will start showing on December 21, 2018, to January 2, 2018, and venue is Terra Kulture, Lagos.
