Keshi replace injured Victor Moses with Dolphins striker

by Mark Bassey

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, has called up Dolphins forward, Emem Eduok as replacement for Stoke striker, Victor Moses, who was forced off after only 18 minutes of Stoke’s 3-1 defeat at Sunderland on Saturday, 4 October.

Eduok played a minor role in Nigeria’s Flying Eagles’ campaign at the 2013 World Youth Championship held in Turkey in 2013.

Moses will miss this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan after a recurrence of a thigh injury. Stoke manager, Mark Hughes said Moses will be sent for “more tests during the international break”.

He has featured for the Super Eagles since the second round 2-0 loss to France at the World Cup in Brazil.

Keshi had failed to invite Moses for Nigeria’s 3-2 home defeat to Congo and the subsequent goalless draw in South Africa in September, stating the striker’s ‘loss of form’ as the factor for his absence.

However, following the Super Eagles’ poor start to qualifying for the next African Cup of Nations, the coach called up Moses for the away match to Sudan on 11 October, and the return fixture in Abuja on 15 October.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group A, with only the top two teams guaranteed a place at the finals.
