“It’s another beautiful Thursday morning” one might think, only to go on the streets of Twitter and realize that two prominent Yoruba figures are the subject of yet another controversial trend.
Just woke up and I’m seeing Alaafin sends his youngest wife packing for having an affair with Kwam 1. I need to go back to bed

This morning Twitter went into a frenzy over news that one of the many wives of the Alaafin of Oyo has been sleeping around, and with a close friend of her husband, no less. Olori Badirat Ajoke the youngest of ALAAFIN of Oyo’s wives who is just 29 years of age was sent parking from the palace yesterday on allegations that she has been having an affair with popular Nigerian Fuji musician KWAM 1.
Reactions on the news range from dragging Kwam1 for his stint with infidelity and notorious reputation for threading uncharted territories,
Kwam 1 been hoeing at a legendary level for long… i thought he went too far when he had an affair with Pasuma’s Daughter..
but having an affair with one of Alaafin Oyo’s Wives??? 🤯
Thats some Ancestral hoeing level right there. pic.twitter.com/kXkwMYodfp

to some simply making light of the situation, and having fun with the trend.

It’s also interesting to note that a number of the beliefs surrounding the divinity of the Alaafin may have been challenged by this incident, as people on twitter seemed pleasantly disappointed to see that none of the spiritual implications, that comes with sleeping with the Alaafin’s wife, all of which seems eerily frightening, came to pass. In fact in many people’s estimation Kwam1 has been sleeping with the Alaafin’s wife for quite some time now, and he seems to be doing just fine.
“So were we lied to?” Is the question on everyone’s lips. This incident has served as an ideal case study of myth vs fact, and how a narrative can be propagated to suit the interest of the elites in society.
It’s a good thing that this Kwam1 issue happened to the Alaafin. If maybe it was the Ooni of Ife or Benin it happened to, you will see people shouting this can never happen to the alaafin, they will die, turn to animals, alaafin will do this and that. But now see! He is powerless pic.twitter.com/Y3zNRX6Ay4

Owing to this ugly extramarital affair, Nigerians on Twitter have called into question; just how much these monarchs and similar ‘larger than life personalities’ use their influence to have their way with women, some of which are married. The issue of having many concubines outside wedlock has become a regular occurrence with Nigerian dignitaries, which many people turn a blind eye to, or excuse, simply because of said person’s social standing.
So this incident is particularly interesting because, this time it is an important figure that is at the short end of the stick, and people have become curious to see how the Alaafin will respond to this ordeal.
