You must appear before medical panel – Taraba Attorney-General tells Suntai

by James Sambo

The controversy over Taraba governor, Danbaba Suntai’s state of health continues to linger as the state attorney-general insists that he faces a medical panel to confirm his fitness.

Barr. Musa Tende, the attorney-general who was appointed by the Taraba Acting Governor, Garba Umar, made this decision public following Suntai’s refusal to appear before a five-man medical panel set up by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to certify him fit to resume his duties as governor.

Tende said he saw nothing wrong in the governor appearing before the panel as the law permits him to do so.

According to him, the governor must have an ulterior motive not to appear before the panel explaining that it could not have been because the case was presently in court.

Governor Suntai was said to have based his refusal to appear before the panel on the basis that the case was in court.

Danbaba, who spoke through G.T. Kataps, said the medical panel was part of the reliefs the governor sought in the suit he instituted against the Assembly when he wrote and requested to resume office when he returned.

In his refusal, Suntai hinted that since the case was in court, it would not be wise for him to appear before any medical team until the case was dispensed with.

Danbaba Suntai escaped death two years ago after a plane he was flying crashed in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
