Case dismissed! Timipre Sylva’s N19.2bn fraud charges set aside

The N19.2 billion fraud charges levelled against the former governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva, has been dismissed by a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.

Sylva, who’s the Bayelsa governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, had his case struck out by Justice Adeniyi Ademola on Thursday afternoon.

Ruling on the case, Justice Ademola said the 50-count charge brought forward by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was an abuse of court process.

The judge said the fraud charges had been twice dismissed by two federal high courts, hence there was no reason to bring it back to life.

He also held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to rule on the criminal charges against Sylva.
