Netflix has released stills from its upcoming Nollywood film titled “Hijack ‘93,” the retelling of the October 1993 plane hijack incident in Nigeria.
Charles Okpeleke, a Nigerian filmmaker whose dream is to retell Nigerian stories in the modern world, has chosen to partner with Netflix in retelling the incident of the 1993 airplane hijack that happened in Nigeria.
Based on the actual event, “Hijack ‘93” will depict the story of a plane hijack carried out by four Nigerian teenagers under the banner of “Movement for the Actualisation of Democracy” (MAD). These teenagers allegedly hijacked an airplane in transit to Abuja from Lagos.
The plane hijackers had demanded that MKO Abiola be reinstated as the President of Nigeria as Nigeria was in talks of transforming into a civilian rule after decades of military rule. The boys were caught, imprisoned, and later released.
Directed by Robert O. Peters, “Hijack ‘93” is set to star Jemima Osunde, Nancy Isime, Efa Iwara, Sharon Ooja, Ego Nwosu, John Dumelo, Nnamdi Agbo, Allison Emmanuel, Yakubu Muhammed, and Sani Muazu.
