Opinion: Open letter to Pastor Adeboye on the perennial traffic lockdown in Lagos

At this point sir, I want to say that I am aware that certain persons will begin to run their mouth wild forgetting temporarily that when they speak against God’s anointed, they automatically cut short their blessings. Sir, please forgive them. They know not what they do.

Dear Sir,

First, let me begin by saying a big thank you for being a leading light and a worthy role-model of the Christian faith. Sir, you have raised many role models and leaders, and on behalf of many, who have had the privilege of feeding from God’s wisdom upon you, I want to say thank you!

However sir, I am bothered within the deep recesses of my soul, and since you are a father in every sense of the word, I am confident that you will provide me with the needed wisdom on that which haunts me. Sir, I have lived in Lagos for many years and even though a good part of my life was spent in Ibadan, I am more of Lagos than any other location in Nigeria. I now work in Lagos and sir it bothers me that every first Friday of the month, purposely ordained by God for the gathering of the great and mighty men and women of the RCCG at the Redemption Camp, a major part of Lagos is engaged in a traffic lockdown. This traffic is attributed to the heavy influx of persons to the Camp. Since our government has refused over the years to invest in proper transportation via speed trains, underground rails, good bus coaches or other compliant means, many visiting the camp must take their cars. In addition to this, the utter neglect of the Lagos-Ibadan express way coupled with the petrol tankers parked around Ibafo and Magboro area, are a major hindrance to smooth movement on the expressway.

Sir, before I continue, let me state upfront that I have been blessed with the privilege of attending the Holy Ghost service on the Redemption Camp. It is a rare and awesome experience that every Christian in Nigeria should partake of. Also, for a part of my life I was resident on the camp grounds also. The national call was responsible for that. Going on to my bother that I stated previously, I would like to suggest the following:

1. All Holy Ghost Services (HGS) could be done in coordination with various security and traffic personnel from both Lagos and Ogun State. The Police, Lastma, MOPOL, Road safety, Civil defense and Man’O’War, could be drafted to help with the traffic situation.

2. Mega Parishes like Solid Rock in Ojodu, City of David in VI, and more should have live satellite feed from camp and should have their workers mandated not to go to the camp except on Special cases. This will form an avenue for evangelizing to more people in these choice areas.

3. More TV stations should be approached to buy viewing time of the HGS. Right now, I am aware of Dove TV and LTV that air the HGS and the saints can watch from their homes. There is no distance in the spirit realm.

4. The Media team of RCCG could also publicise the various online channels for viewing the HGS online via the Internet. This will work for many wealthy members of the RCCG who don’t have to bother about cost of data plans like many upcoming entrepreneurs I know.

5. Encouraging the government to ensure that all the trucks and trailers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway are removed and relocated to designated lorry parks. I know the governors of Lagos and Ogun states will listen to you about this matter. They are wise men.

6. The RCCG traffic team should also partner with Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1fm and our top two Twitter traffic angels (@Gidi_Traffic and @TrafficButter) on HGS days to inform the public about plans being put in place to ensure hitch-free traffic.

7. The RCCG should consider building its own airport and helipad on camp. This is for those who have private jets and helicopters to land on camp and reduce traffic on the road.

Dear Daddy G.O, for now, those are the points that I have that I feel if implemented, we will have first Fridays in Lagos that Lagosians are happy about. I cannot say that those are the solutions that will bring the solutions, but I am only a concerned Christian who is a Nigerian living in Lagos. At this point sir, I want to say that I am aware that certain persons will begin to run their mouth wild forgetting temporarily that when they speak against God’s anointed, they automatically cut short their blessings. Sir, please forgive them. They know not what they do.

Daddy, I want to thank you for taking time out to read this my write-up. If I have in any way offended you in this, I also ask for your forgiveness.

Thank you for being a great blessing to the world!

A child of the Most High,

Amenze Iyamu.

  1. Amenze may the good Lord continue to add wisdom and many more years to your life. You have raised good points and knowing a person who is so blessed as Pastor E. A. Adeboye u are very sure u have spoken to wise listening ears.

  2. Nice comment. I just don't want to believe that people will want to sit down at home or a church instead of being at the camp ground. At the end of the service, you see people praying while walking out of camp. This issue can only be solved if the roads are widened. I also believe in partnering with other security operatives in both states and with the 2 leading dedicated traffic handles. God bless you bro. God bless RCCG. God bless G.O. God bless Nigeria.
