A lawmaker of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rasak Momoh has been beaten to a pulp by thugs in Benin.
Momoh, who represents Etsako 1 Constituency in Edo State House of Assembly was attacked on Tuesday, 7 October, at about 11pm at the State Legislative Quarters in Benin.
After beating him to the point of death, the thugs reportedly fled the scene of the incident. The lawmaker was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where he is now receiving medical treatment.
Following his recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP in June, Momoh had been at odds with other APC lawmakers in the state.
Momoh, who was later suspended and his seat declared vacant, had raised an alarm on 29 September that his life was in danger.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo confirmed the attack, saying that some people have been arrested in connection with the crime.
