Police parade 5 suspects allegedly involved in electoral violence in Rivers

The Police on Wednesday paraded five suspects allegedly involved in hijacking electoral items during the Rivers legislative rerun election on Saturday.

According to police spokesperson, Dan Awunah, the suspects were found with

a green Independent National Electoral Commission branded bag, eight booklets of  ballot papers meant for Emohua Local Government Area, and one INEC accreditation incident reports booklet.

Awunah gave the name of the suspects as Noble Nwaerema, Dike Deinpiribo, Valentine Alalibo, Onwunari Warmate and Iloke Stephen.

Also discovered was a blood stained agent card of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one statement of results booklet.

Awunah said arms and ammunition recovered from the suspects included, one AK47 rifle, one assault rifle, six magazines and 112 rounds of live ammunition.

He further revealed that the state Anti-Robbery Squad operatives arrested Nwaerema along the Rumusi Elele Road on December 10.

“They invaded Emohua Local Government and carted away electoral materials meant for polling units within the area; intelligence report confirmed the electoral materials were taken to a government facility and escorted by armed personnel,” Awunah stated.

He further said the others were members of a cult group and political thug group who were engaged by one Boma Goodhead.

“The rifles and 112 rounds of ammunition were recovered from them, other members of the killer gang fled and detectives are on their trail,” he emphasised.
