Why the President and Senate President may possibly clash

The President, Muhammadu Buhari, and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, may soon be at loggerheads… or maybe not.

It all depends on how this one plays out.

There are indications that the Senate President feels slighted over an attempt by the Presidency to disregard his authority.

Senators loyal to Bukola Saraki, have accused the Presidency of not allowing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Anastacia Nwaobia, to honour an invitation by the upper chamber.

When invited, Nwaobia reportedly informed the Senate that she could not honour the invitation without an approval by her supervisors.

And then the Senators got very irate.

The Saraki loyalists however, insist that the Senate had the constitutional power to invite Nwaobia without necessarily getting an approval from her superiors.

The Senators also believe that her refusal constituted an affront to the legitimacy of the senate president.

Oh well, that’s still up for debate.

The Saraki loyalists’ are of the opinion that the reluctance of the All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari to accept the presidency of Saraki, is responsible for the affront.

Well, anyone could see that coming.

A pro-Saraki senator revealed to Punch on Sunday, that: “It will not augur well for our democracy if the Presidency will not allow civil servants to do their jobs. We should not carry the crisis in the APC to the Senate.”

We’ll be sure to let you know how this one ends.
