#RioOlympics: Germany beats Nigeria 2 – 0 to reach finals

Germany beat Nigeria 2-0 in the semi final of the football event of the Rio Olympics and will now face hosts Brazil in Saturday’s final.

The Germans started the game quickly and were rewarded with an early goal in the ninth minute when Lukas Klostermann scored from close range from a low cross.

The Nigerian team had attempts to equalise but squandered their chances. Sadiq Umar had a clear chance when German goalkeeper Timo Horn made a mistake but his lack of composure made him miss from close range.

The Germans controlled the game and the pace and trickery of Serge Gnabry and Julian Brandt was too much for the Dream Team to handle as they kept finding spaces behind Nigeria’s full backs.

In the 89th minute substitute Nils Petersen increased Germany’s lead as he tucked in a low cross.

Germany will now face Brazil who beat Honduras 6-0, in the final at at Maracana stadium while Nigeria will face Honduras in the third-place match.
