President Muhammadu Buhari has called on all parties in Saturday’s re-run election in Rivers to shun violence and embrace peace.
Buhari said this in a statement on Friday via his official Twitter account saying elections is not a do-or-die affair.
He said, “I urge all political parties, candidates and the people of Rivers to please ensure that tomorrow’s polls take place without rigging and violence. Elections should not be seen as do-or-die. Innocent blood should never be sacrificed on the altar of political contest for temporary power. I enjoin the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do all within its powers to give transparency and fairness to the electoral exercise in Rivers State. We remain committed to deepening democracy by building a legacy of respect for the people’s wishes through free, fair and credible elections.”
