SSS forcefully ejects former DG, Kayode Are from his Lagos home

A former Director General of the State Security Service, Kayode Are, has been forcefully ejected from his Lagos home, by operatives of the security agency.

In spite of a court injunction barring the SSS from evicting Are, the agency went ahead on Wednesday to forcefully throw out his properties and his family.

Upon retirement from the SSS, former Director-Generals are usually granted the liberty to have a house in any city they desire, but after the appointment of Lawal Daura, the incumbent Director General of the Service, Are was informed that the allocation of his Lagos home was questionable, hence he should vacate the property.

Speaking to Premium Times about his plight, Are said: “They are right here in my house. They have pulled down the doors, chased my family away and are throwing out our properties.”

“I have lived here for five years. Five of us are enjoying this benefit but I’m the only one being treated this way.”

“On Tuesday, an injunction from the Federal High Court, Lagos, was served on them (SSS). But as you can see, they are disobeying the court order.”

“All I’m saying is that nobody should be allowed to use public institutions to settle personal scores with people.”

Lateef Kayode Are is a retired Nigerian Army Colonel who was Director Generalof the Nigerian State Security Service(SSS) from 1999 to 2007 and briefly served as National Security Adviser in 2010.

Are served as an officer in the Directorate of Military Intelligence up until retirement by General Sani Abacha.

Are was appointed as Director-General of the State Security Service by President Olusegun Obasanjo, and served in that post throughout Olusegun Obasanjo’s two terms and was replaced with Afakiriya Gadzama in 2007.
