The Supreme Court, late on Wednesday, upheld the election of Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of Abia State.
The seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court ruled in an unanimous judgment, that Ikpeazu was the duly elected governor of the state.
The panel, headed by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, voided the verdict of the Owerri Division of the Court of Appeal which sacked Ikpeazu from office.
Justice Sulaiman Galadima, while delivering the lead judgment, said there was merit in the appeal lodged by Ikpeazu and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Consequently, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
